Hurricane Web Log

These pictures were all taken by me, unless otherwise stated, and are considered my property (unless otherwise stated).

All pictures from Katrina, Ophelia, and Wilma were taken on a Sanyo 9000 camera-phone

The bulk of these are from major hurricane Wilma, who hit Broward couty directly as a category 3 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds were about (or over?) 120 miles per hour, with gusts higher.
You'll see what the average Joe sees before, during, and after a hurricane, not what news agenices want you to see (if you want to go see them, them go to cnn.com, foxnews.com etc..).
A good source of other "Average Joe" pictures are available at The Sun Sentinel's Web Site (a local newspaper). Click on "Reader submitted photos to see them.
More hurricane information is available at NOAA's Hurricane Center.
Wilma hit my community as a strong category 3 hurricane. We didn't get the eye, according to radar images, we were in the eyewall (the strongest part of the hurricane) for over 3 hours.
Why am I doing this? I'm not looking for a handout, or sympathy. My family was very fortunate during these events, especially Wilma. We still have a house to live in, no power for over 11 days is an inconvenience, but we survived and were able to live with my wife's friend for a few days (close to a week?) until we got power back.
I'm doing this so people can see what it's like for the average person. No high profile picures of someone's roof flying off, no massive wall of water coming down my street, just what I saw (and dealt with) during the few days it hit us.
The before pictures were taken on October 22 or 23 (I don't remember what day exactly). "Day 1" is the day that Wilma hit us, we lost power at 3:30AM on October 24th, and the storm picked up by 5AM. We had a hurricane until about 1PM (the worst was between 10AM and noon when we had the strongest art of the eyewall and the back end of the storm).
I do have a quick video (Shot with a Sanyo 7400 multimedia phone) at Here of a feeder band from Jeanne that went though last summer. The noise you hear is the intense rain we had. This squall lasted only a few minutes, but winds drastically picked up to 50 miles per hour. This was also the day after Jeanne made landfall.
